If you are a current user of Spartakus APM, you have probably been asked to provide the list of assets prior to kicking off your journey. In that case, you surely wondered “ok, but what is an asset in the Spartakus world”?
Various CMMS use different denominations when referring to a piece of equipment. And there are probably as many definitions of the word “asset” as there are existing CMMS. Our goal here is to simply provide a definition of what we consider an asset.
General definition
In the manufacturing/industrial world, assets refer to valuable resources owned by a company that are used to produce goods and services. These assets can be broadly categorized into two main types:
- Physical Assets
- Equipment and Machinery: This includes manufacturing machinery, tools, and any equipment used in the production process.
- Facilities: Buildings, factories, and other physical structures used for manufacturing activities.
- Inventory: Raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods that are essential for the manufacturing process.
- Vehicles: Trucks, forklifts, and other vehicles used for transportation and logistics within the manufacturing operation.
- Intangible Assets
- Intellectual Property: This includes patents, trademarks, copyrights, and other forms of intellectual property that contribute to the manufacturing process.
- Technology and Software: Any technology or software used in the manufacturing process, such as automation systems, CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
- Brand Value: The reputation and recognition of a brand within the manufacturing industry can also be considered as an intangible asset.

In Spartakus APM
If we ask for how many assets you want to upload in Spartakus APM for inspection or lubrication rounds, a simple way would be to think in terms of how many drive trains or control loops you have. Examples of assets in Spartakus are:
- Rock conveyor
- Slurry pump
- Air compressor
- Couch roller
- Exhaust fan
- Etc.
