A plant operator round is a scheduled set of maintenance inspections performed by all-round operators to monitor equipment’s health, detect anomalies, improve safety, limit human error, and reduce unplanned downtime. These digital operator rounds are a foundation of preventive maintenance, replacing traditional paper checklists and streamlining the entire process for greater efficiency.
Accessing the “Route Builder” Tool
To create a mobile operator rounds, start by navigating to the ”Route Builder” section in Spartakus APM.

This tool offers two options for building a route:
- Custom PdM Route: Build a Predictive Maintenance route entirely from scratch to suit specific needs.
- Based on Profile: Use existing tasks as a foundation for creating the route, streamlining the setup process.

For an operator round, you must choose “Based on Profile” since operator round are not considered to be predictive maintenance, they’re routine inspections.
Preparing Before Creating the Route
Before creating a route, ensure that related tasks are already set up in Spartakus APM. These tasks will appear during the route creation process. If no tasks are available, you won’t be able to proceed.

Step-by-Step Guide: Creating an Operator Analysis Round
Step 1: Choosing the Tasks Associated with the Route

When creating a route in Spartakus APM, tasks should include key elements such as frequency of interventions, operator specialization, and machine operating status.
- Frequency of Interventions: Set how often inspections should occur to balance cost and risk.
- Specialization: Assign operators or technicians with the right specialization.
- Machine Operating Status: Consider whether the equipment is running or down during inspections. Most operator route occur while machines are operating.
Step 2: Select the Asset and Technology

To link the route to specific assets, ensure the corresponding tasks are already created. Spartakus APM enables you to:
- Tie routes to appropriate assets and technologies for streamlined inspections.
- Include visual inspections, and when necessary, incorporate simple technologies or other measurement tools to make inspections more objective and data-driven.

Step 3: Add Route Details
Define key details for the route:
- Name: Choose a clear, descriptive title.
- Overview: Provide a summary of the route’s purpose and scope.
- Time Allocation: Specify the estimated duration of the inspection.
- Notes: Add context or specific instructions for the operator.

Step 4: Confirm the Route

Once all details are entered, confirm the route. After confirmation:
- You’ll be redirected to the Route Details page, where all the inputted information is accessible.
- Any aspect of the route can be reviewed and edited as needed.
